Project will lead to more secure and reliable water supply
Irish Water will shortly begin construction work on a project to replace 1.9km of old water mains in the Kildorrery area, leading to a significantly improved water supply for local residents and businesses.
Separately, a planning application has been lodged for a proposed new reservoir in Kildorrery to replace the existing reservoir. This would significantly increase its capacity, providing over 24-hours storage of treated water.
These projects will result in a more secure and reliable water supply for homes and businesses in the village and surrounding areas.
Work is due to get underway in the coming weeks to replace 1.9km of the old water main which is in very poor condition and has been subject to regular bursts. This has led to frequent disruption to the water supply for customers in the area. This work will also result in a significant saving in treated water lost due to leakage.
Coffey Northumbrian Ltd will carry out this water main replacement project on behalf of Irish Water. Construction work is due to start on December 8 and is expected to take ten weeks to complete. The first section, which runs along the R512 Glanworth Road south of the town, is about 1km in length. The work will stop during the Christmas period and resume in early January with the remaining 900m of replacement mains from Scart Cross to Meadstown Cross. As part of this work, a number of lead service connections will also be replaced.
While the work is being carried out, traffic management measures will be in place to minimise disruption to local residents and road users. Diversion routes will be signposted and local access will be facilitated in instances where roads are closed.

This project forms part of Irish Water’s national Leak Reduction Programme which will see an investment of over €500 million nationally over the next four years to improve the public water supply. These works will ensure that customers have a more reliable service and experience fewer water outages due to burst pipes and leaks. The new pipes will also ensure a clean and safe water supply for all our customers.
