Project Summary
Pumping Station and Sludge Treatment Centre in County Sligo.
Project Description
The construction of Waste Water Treatment Works, Pumping Station and Sludge Treatment Centre at Finisklin Co. Sligo. The scheme principally involves the construction of a new wastewater treatment plant and outfall from a ‘Greenfield’ site. There is also a requirement to construct a pump station for the raw sewage from the existing wastewater collection point, a sludge treatment centre and sludge treatment facilities at outlying satellites.
Project Delivery
The main elements of works are as follows:
Concrete Works:
- The construction of 1 reinforced concrete aeration selector tank and flow split tank8.625m x 6.90m in plan 5.5m high (4.725m above ground level).
- The construction of 2 reinforced concrete final settlement tanks 34m dia. with a depth of 7.28m at the middle (2.3m above ground level).
- The construction of 2 reinforced concrete primary settlement tanks 18m dia. with a depth of 4.85m at the middle (4.0m above ground level).
- The construction of 1 reinforced concrete hard standing pasteurisation area.
- The construction of 1 reinforced concrete oxidation tank 27.30m x 20.40m in plan and 7.00m in depth (3.0m above ground level)
- The construction of 1 reinforced concrete storm tank 23.80m x 23.20m in plan and 4.542m in depth (3.950m above ground level).
- The construction of 1 reinforced concrete flow split tank 6.350m x 6.350m in plan and 3.50m in depth (2.90m above ground level).
- The construction of 1 reinforced concrete final effluent wash-water pumping station 3.60m in dia. in plan and 2.1m in depth (1.10m above ground level).
- The construction of 1 reinforced concrete RAS pumping station
- The construction of 1 reinforced concrete UV disinfection 8.650m x 4.670m in plan and 1.465m in depth.
- The construction of a sludge-blending tank 11.940m dia. in plan 11.250m high.
- The construction of 2 sludge digesters 9.60m dia. in plan and 11.50m high.
- The construction of 1 secondary digester tank 5.970m dia. in plan and 9.852m high.
- The construction of 1 concrete primary sludge pumping station.
Pumping Station
The construction of a two-storey reinforced concrete pumping station 32.450m x 19.600m in plan and 13.050m in depth (8.131m below ground level). Due to the proximity of the pumping station to the sea the site had to be piled using cecant piling and 6″ electrical pumps were used to keep the water level down in the hole. The site was very congested due to the sea on one side and a road on the other side.
Buildings
- The construction of a screening & grit removal structural steel building 28.0m x 13.0m in plan &11.6m high with a reinforced concrete inlet works tanking & flume structure inside (5.60m high).
- The construction of a one-storey administration building 13.423m x 8.00m in plan and a 5.4m high of block-work construction.
- The construction of a one-storey sludge de-watering building 18.00m x 25.00m in the plan of block-work construction.
Pipelines
- The construction of an outfall 1.00m diameter HDPE pipe piped into Sligo Harbour.
- The laying of 400m of 225mm diameter stormwater pipe & associated gullies.
- The laying of 390m of 150mm water main
- The laying of all interconnecting sewer pipes on site
- 132m of 800mm diameter Ductile Iron
- 124m of 700mm diameter Ductile Iro
- 160m of 600mm diameter Ductile Iron
- 127m of 500mm diameter Ductile Iron
- 96m of 350mm diameter Ductile Iron
- 34m of 150mm diameter Ductile Iron
- 470m of 100mm diameter Ductile Iron
Groundwork’s
The laying of street lighting ducting & site ducting for process control
620m of 100mm OD ducting.
The construction of 1 reinforced concrete hard standing pasteurisation area.
The construction of 400m of a 5.7m wide roadway, an 8 bay car parking area & 590m of concrete footpaths
