Description:
This Design Build Operate Contract provides for the complete Civil, Mechanical & Electrical Works required for the design, construction, operation and maintenance of the Water Treatment Plant for Owenteskna WSS. Irish Water propose to continue using Lough Nalughraman as the raw water source.

Treatment Process
The recommended process for the proposed treatment for the 100m³/hour Water Treatment Plant, consists of:

  • Flocculation
  • Coagulation
  • Clarification
  • Filtration
  • Chlorination
  • Fluoridation


Water Treatment Plant:

  • Treatment Building (with administration) –Structural steel frame building, faced with cladding and forticrete blockwork).
  • Alum Contact Tanks
  • Clarifiers
  • Sand filters
  • Picket Fence Thickener
  • Waste Water Recover Tank
  • Precast concrete clean water tank Storage
  • Chlorine & Fluoride dosing system
  • Sodium Hydroxide dosing system
  • Poly make up and dosing system
  • Backwash and Backwash water recovery system
  • Alum bulk storage tank
  • Fluoride bulk storage tank
  • Water Treatment equipment Mechanical and Electrical installation
  • Associated pipework, SCADA, ducting and landscaping works.


Project Duration and Location:
The proposed site is located in Owenteskiny Td, Meenaneary, Co. Donegal. The Co-ordinates for the site are 54° 43’ 17” North and 8° 34’ 49” West and XY 562586, 8866085 ITM.
The construction period for the Design/ Build is 12 months and operation service period is 12 months, the total duration of the works is 24 months.

28/04/2017 - Turning the Sod for the Owenteskna Water Treatment Plant

Irish Water and Donegal County Council today marked the start of construction on the €4 million investment by the national utility in a new water treatment plant at Owenteskna to benefit almost 4,000 consumers in the South West Donegal area.

David McLoone, Irish Water's Infrastructure Programme Regional Lead, and the Minister of State for the Diaspora and Overseas Development Aid, Joe McHugh TD turned the sod at the site of the new Owenteskna Water Treatment Plant (WTP) this afternoon.

When completed the new plant will benefit consumers in South West Donegal covering the area west of Killybegs including Kilcar, Carrick and Glencolmcille.
